Dar: Imperfect Subjunctive
The subjunctive mode differs from the indicative mode mainly in what it conveys; the indicative expresses facts, things that are mostly verifiable, but more importantly are certain for the speaker.
On the other hand, the subjunctive expresses emotions, whether of doubt, joy, sadness, etc. In the case of happiness and sadness, the subjunctive refers to events that happened, and they are expressed with this mood to emphasize how the speaker feels about them, e.g.: Me alegra que lean nuestros artículos: I am happy you guys read our articles. The verb Leer is written: Lean... expressing that there are emotions in the speech and not simply "facts".
In cases of doubt; it emphasizes that the speaker cannot affirm 100% what is expressed.
