Simple Present + Present Subjunctive.



Ir, can be sometimes confusing because it is a part of the IR A - Go to structure to indicate future, but it is not hard to see how it works, not very different from English, perhaps a lot of different expressions from both languages can use different words.

Simple Present: It Can be future



  • Voy al supermercado por comida. I'm going to the supermarket for groceries.




  • ¿Vas al cine esta noche? Are you going to the movies tonight?




  • Él va a la playa todos los fines de semana. He goes to the beach every weekend.




  • Nosotros vamos de viaje el próximo mes. We're going on a trip next month.




  • ¿Ustedes van de compras al centro comercial? Are you guys going shopping at the mall?




  • Ellos van a una fiesta esta noche. They are going to a party tonight.




  • Me gusta cuando vamos al cine. I like it when we go to the movies.




  • ¿Tú vas a casa de tus abuelos este fin de semana? Are you going to your grandparents' house this weekend?




  • Él no va al gimnasio hace un tiempo. He hasn't been to the gym in a while.



  • ¿Vamos a un concierto el sábado? Do you want to go to a concert on Saturday?



  • ¿Vosotras vais por pizza esta noche? Are you (girls) going out for pizza tonight?



  • Ellos van de excursión al bosque mañana. They're going hiking in the woods tomorrow.


Subjunctive Present: Indicating Future and Present




  • Es importante que vayas al médico si te sientes mal. It 's important to go to the doctor if you feel sick.




  • Espero que vayamos al parque mañana si hace buen tiempo. I hope we will go to the park tomorrow if the weather is nice.




  • No estoy seguro de que él vaya a la fiesta. I'm not sure he's going to the party.




  • Dudo que nosotros vayamos de viaje este año. I doubt we will be going on a trip this year.




  • Os sugiero que vosotras vayáis a la biblioteca a estudiar. I suggest you two(girls) go to the library to study.



  • Es posible que ellos vayan al cine más tarde.They may go to the movies later.



  • Me gustaría que vayas a la playa conmigo. I would like you to go to the beach with you.



  • Será mejor que tú no vayas a la fiesta si te sientes mal. It will be better if you don't go to the party if you feel bad.



  • No creo que él vaya a tiempo. I don't think he's going to make it in time.




  • Ojalá que nosotros vayamos a un concierto este mes. Hopefully we will go to a concert this month.



  • Es necesario que vosotras vayáis al supermercado a comprar comida. You guys need to go to the grocery store to buy food.



  • Quizás ellos vayan de excursión a la montaña el próximo fin de semana. Maybe they will go hiking in the mountains next weekend.

  Learning Spanish One Verb at a Time Future Ir a - Going to  Near Future unfulfilled intention in the past  The construction “Voy a + infinitive” is very common in Spanish and is used to express immediate future actions or nearby plans.
