Anoche quise ver una película, pero me quedé dormido.Last night I wanted to watch a movie, but I fell asleep.



Yesterday I wanted to buy ice cream, but the ice cream shop was closed. Ayer quise comprar un helado, pero la heladería estaba cerrada.


 

Last week I wanted to go to the beach, but I didn't have enough money. La semana pasada quise viajar a la playa, pero no tenía suficiente dinero.



Last month I wanted to learn a new language, but I didn't have time. El mes pasado quise aprender un nuevo idioma, pero no tuve tiempo.



A year ago Luisa wanted to change jobs, but she couldn't find a good offer. Hace un año Luisa quiso cambiar de trabajo, pero no encontró una buena oferta.



When I was a child, I always wanted to have a pet. Cuando era niño, siempre quise tener una mascota. 



When my brother was young, he wanted to be a musician, but my parents didn't support him. De joven, mi hermano quiso ser músico, pero mis padres no lo apoyaron.



In college, I wanted to study medicine, but I didn't pass the entrance exam. En la universidad, quise estudiar medicina, pero no aprobé el examen de ingreso.



After she graduated, Ana wanted to travel the world, but I didn't get the chance. Después de graduarse, Ana quiso viajar por el mundo, pero no tuvo la oportunidad.



Now that you are older, you just want to live in peace and enjoy your family. Ahora que eres mayor, solo quieres vivir en paz y disfrutar de tu familia.

Pasado Imperfecto: Copretérito


Cuando era pequeño, siempre quería jugar con mis amigos. When I was little, I always wanted to play with my friends.



As a teenager, I wanted to party every weekend. De adolescente, quería salir de fiesta todos los fines de semana.



In school, my friends wanted to get good grades to please their parents. En la escuela, mis amigos querían sacar buenas notas para complacer a sus padres.



When I first fell in love, I wanted to spend all my time with my partner. Cuando me enamoré por primera vez, quería pasar todo el tiempo con mi pareja.



In college, I wanted to graduate and find a good job to have a stable future. En la universidad, quería graduarme y encontrar un buen trabajo para tener un futuro estable.



After graduating, we wanted to travel the world and learn about new cultures. Después de graduarnos, queríamos viajar por el mundo y conocer nuevas culturas. 



When I got married, I wanted to start a family and have children. Cuando me casé, quería formar una familia y tener hijos.



When I retired, I wanted to enjoy my free time and travel with my partner. Cuando me jubilé, quería disfrutar de mi tiempo libre y viajar con mi pareja.

Imperfect Subjunctive: Subjuntivo Imperfecto


I wish you would like to join me at the movies this weekend. Ojalá que quisieras acompañarme al cine este fin de semana.



It would be nice if you wanted to help me with this project. Sería agradable que quisieras ayudarme con este proyecto.



I loved that you wanted to come to my party tomorrow. Me encantó que quisieras venir a mi fiesta mañana.



I wish Maria would (want to) reconsider her decision. Ojalá María quisiera reconsiderar su decisión.



If you loved her, you'd like to see her happy. Si la quisieras, te gustaría verla feliz.



It was nice of you to want to keep me in mind for the next trip. Fue muy amable que quisieras tenerme en cuenta para el próximo viaje.




Grandma always said: "if you loved me a little, you would come to see me more often". La abuela siempre decía: “ si ustedes me quisieran un poco, vendrían a verme más seguido”



It would be nice if you wanted to take care of yourself a little more and eat healthier. Sería bueno que quisieras cuidarte un poco más y comer más sano.



I was told you might want to study medicine. Me dijeron que quizás  quisieras estudiar medicina.



We were hoping you would like to join us for a walk in the country. Esperábamos que quisieras acompañarnos a pasear por el campo.




Quere is used almost in the same way it is used in English, with the biggest difference being that you can express affection, love in Spanish, but only desire in English.

  Learning Spanish One Verb at a Time Future Ir a - Going to  Near Future unfulfilled intention in the past  The construction “Voy a + infinitive” is very common in Spanish and is used to express immediate future actions or nearby plans. It gives a stronger sense of intention than the simple future.
